Prof. Dr. Olha Marmilova is Associate Professor of the department of World History and Archeology at the Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University (Vinnytsia). She received her Candidate of Science degree (PhD equivalent) in 2018. She has recently published a monograph, "History of Ostarbeiters from Donetsk Region: A Source Study" (2021), based on her PhD research on the forced laborers from the Donetsk region in Nazi Germany during Second World War. Prof. Marmilova has previously been a research fellow at Free University of Berlin (2011) and University of St. Gallen (2015/2016). Since 2020 she has participated in the German-Ukrainian-Korean project “Forced Labor in Transnational Perspective,” organized by the Nazi Forced Labor Documentation Center (Berlin) and the Center for Oral History of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.


Dr. Marmilova’s project at the LMU is aimed at investigating memories of WWII in the Donetsk region and their role in the creation of local identity, especially since 2014 in the context of the war in Donbas.
